New Publisher, W.W. Norton & Co.

A Note from the Reacting Consortium Executive Director

Dear Reactors,

I'm pleased to announce that W. W. Norton & Co. is officially our new publisher for the Reacting to the Past series, and will re-issue the nine published games under their imprint beginning this summer.

Norton is acquiring and will be selling the remaining overstock of Reacting books. Norton is also working to print up new copies of these games, but this will likely take some time. We must track down all of the old permissions (e.g. maps, articles, art), negotiate new fees, and finalize the contracts. In some instances this can be accomplished quickly; but in others, it may take some time.

It is possible, and even likely, that we will not have enough hard copies of student gamebooks for some games this September. To ensure that this does not affect your teaching plans, we shall post the electronic files for all games (including the student gamebooks) on the RTTP Library. Access to this site is, of course, restricted to RTTP faculty. If you do not currently have an account and would like access, please feel free to sign up here. The download will include permission for instructors to have the gamebooks photocopied for your students. Please note that in the terms of use you are not allowed to simply send these PDF files driectly to students. And please remember that any electronic version of Reacting Consortium material provided to you is for your own personal and class-related use only. You are not permitted to copy, post, distribute, display, store, or share this material in any way without explicit written permission from the Reacting Consortium. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Mr. Jason Araújo, Membership and Outreach Coordinator for Reacting to the Past.

Even before our annual Faculty Institute in June, W.W. Norton was already hard at work with the Reacting Consortium Editorial Board, chaired by Professor Nick Proctor of Simpson College, to devise a new template and format for new versions of Reacting games. We expect that that these will begin appearing in the summer of 2014.

We regret that this took so long to resolve, but we are looking forward to a new and fruitful partnership with W.W. Norton.
